Position: Student Engagement Representative

Department:  Annual Giving

Reports To: Engagement Center Supervisor

About the Job

The Student Engagement Representative (SER) aids in fundraising efforts at the University of Minnesota Foundation’s engagement center (M Engage). The primary responsibility of this position is to connect with alumni, donors, and friends of the university via phone calls (and may include email / texting) to secure financial support for UMN students and programs. SERs participate in additional outreach projects including event reminders, RSVP confirmations, contact updating, and others.

M Engage is located on the 4th Floor of McNamara Alumni Center, 200 Oak Street SE.

Duties of a Student Engagement Representative

  • Conduct fundraising calls to alumni and supporters, soliciting donations to benefit UMN students, colleges, and programs.
  • Send fundraising / outreach information through email, texting, and / or videos.
  • Build relationships with donors by providing university updates, thanking them for past contributions, and discussing giving opportunities.
  • Participate in additional outreach projects such as event reminders, RSVPs, donor appreciation messages, campaigns, etc.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in the UMN Foundation database.

  • Must be registered as an undergraduate U of M Student.

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Willingness to embrace new responsibilities and take initiative.
  • Must be able to demonstrate professional phone skills.
  • Enjoy working individually and on a team with other students.
  • Be willing to share experiences and communicate effectively with alumni and friends of the University.
  • Have a positive attitude about the UMN and are open to learning more about UMN, it’s programs and people.

How many hours would I be required to work?

You will be required to work 3 shifts per week. The average student works 10-13 hours each week.

Current pay rate:

The starting pay is $15.25 per hour.

You may use your work study funds for this position but it is not required. There are also opportunities for weekly and monthly incentives.
